Calder Richards provided full structural engineering design services for the Burn Trauma Intensive Care Unit of University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City. Our team was tasked with ensuring the existing structure could support essential burn patient equipment such as ceiling mounted booms and patient lifts. The team’s design minimized disruption to surrounding parts of the busy hospital. It also required construction activities be vibration-free near critical care areas. In addition, a roof-structure infill provided additional square footage for expansion. The facility serves Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Nevada, and Montana.
