About Us

Calder Richards Structural Engineers

Our History

Our firm, Calder Richards, was established in 2005 with the merger of two of Utah’s leading structural engineering companies:  Calder Kankainen Consulting Engineers (CKCE) + Richards Consulting Group (RCG), each founded in 1986.  Kelly Calder’s and JR Richards’ vision for delivering a broader spectrum of services from the union of their two firms proved to be a bold and brilliant strategy.  From engineering for the 2002 Olympics to seismically upgrading Utah’s iconic historic buildings, the creation of Calder Richards continues the founder’s long-standing commitment to building lasting relationships and technical excellence.

He also works with the firm’s K-12 studio for new school design.

He earned his B.S. degree in Civil Engineering in 1992 from the University of Utah before acquiring his structural engineering licensure. Scott has learned what is pivotal to the success of a project. Knowing what works and what doesn’t has evolved from his years of experience in the industry. In addition, he manages the firm’s Human Resources department.
