Colvin Engineering’s new corporate offices feature a stunning adaptive reuse of the historic, mid-century modern, Steiner American Building. This iconic building was lacking in seismic strength, so the following structural improvements were implemented as a voluntary upgrade to enhance seismic performance.
- Strategically placed shotcrete shear walls at main floor to provide additional lateral capacity.
- Designed new concrete shear walls at parking level to eliminate a soft story condition.
- Installed Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) reinforcing around new mechanical penetrations in roof slab.
