The design of the Alta High School Performing Arts Center featured supporting walls surrounding the auditorium that were engineered in an extraordinary way. With a construction climate that levied a heavy demand on skilled trades, concern regarding a tight construction schedule, and the economic impact of both, the design team, in conjunction with the contractor, elected to construct the main supporting walls for the auditorium with concrete tilt-up panels. The challenge, both in design and construction, was their extraordinary height. The panels were formed on a horizontal forming bed in panels typically 12 feet wide, 8½ inches to 19 inches thick, and heights ranging from 55 feet up to 72 feet.
